Main rules to improve your computer security

  • Use quality password : The dictionary defines a password "as an agreed formula designed to be recognized as a friend to be kept open a passage". The password allows to access to the computer and the data it contains. It is essential to know how to choose passwords of quality, that is, hard to find it using automated tools and hard to guess by someone else.
  • Have an updated operating system and software : Browser, antivirus, office, personal firewall, etc.. Most attacks are attempting to use computer vulnerabilities (weaknesses of operating system or software). In general, attackers are looking for computers whose software has not been updated to use an unpatched vulnerability to get inside. This is why it is essential to update all their software to correct these vulnerabilities.
  • Perform regular backups : One of the first principles of defense is to keep a copy of his data to react to an attack or malfunction. Backing up your data is a condition of the continuity of your business.
  • Never use an administrator account to surf : The computer user has privileges or rights on it. These rights allow or not certain activities and to access some files from a computer. A distinction is made between administrator rights or simple user rights. In most cases, simple user rights are enough to send messages or surf the Internet. By restricting the rights of a user, we also limits the risk of infection or compromise of the computer.
  • Control the dissemination of personal information :The Internet is not a place of anonymity and the information that you will let escape instantly! In this context, a good practice to never leave personal information in forums, never enter personal information and sensitive (such as bank details) on sites that do not offer any guarantees.
  • Be careful before opening attachments : They often contain malware. One of the most effective ways to spread malicious code is to use attachments to emails.
